- General DiscussionYesterday I pulled the trigger on an Emmons S-10, S/N 1429-S. It will be here next week. In search of more information, I signed up for this forum and have found some good stuff. I've reviewed the tuning procedure (several versions in fact) and feel prepared to accomplish that as needed. I'd love to learn more specific info about the model I have. Best I can figure it was built around 1975, based on online research. As an introduction, I've been playing 7 years. I have had all-pull guitars from Carter, Williams, GFI, Justice and Mullen and have rerodded and setup all of them. I started steel guitar in 2017 after playing six string for 50 years; left hand arthritis made that impossible so I sold my tele and bought a BMI from Jerry Roller. I play solo gigs with tracks and play in several bands. Easy to keep busy with this instrument. I do not limit myself to country, and love figuring out steel parts for rock and pop songs. My day job is teaching automation and robotics at a local college. My goal is to get strong enough on these guitars to help others. Thanks for letting me in!!Like
- General DiscussionGreetings! I apologize for my absence on this sight. I have not commented since June 2022, and I am about to turn 68 in a few days. My wife Suzanne, and I have been writing and making music everyday for the past year and the Resound 65 has become an integral part of the process. Looking back on my previous post, I stated that I was using a Fender Tone Master (black), from there I bought the Blonde version (great). I thought ,OK ,I'm good to go. In October of 2022 Darin invited me to attend a Desert Rose concert at the Academy of Country music in Nashville, Tn. I live in North Ga. I was at a VFW performing when he called that Friday night (concert was on Sunday). I said "Heck Yeah!" or something like that, and Sunday after church I was cruisin' on up to Nashville. That whole trip meeting up with Darin and Kelcey and Amanda is a story for another time. It was a spiritual filled ride up. After the concert (another great story) I told Darin I wanted to look for a Peavey amp for the Resound. He suggested Johnny and Sue King. They have a hands on store filled with Steels of many types. I paid them a visit. It was a good day! I acquired a Peavey LTD 400 with a JBL 15. From my weekend gigs with a traditional Country Band I would have 80 miles of travel one way to stay alert and fill the time. I began to listen to a lot of Patsy Cline and Ray Price. The early to mid 1960's. Listening to Emmons tone and playing on a medium tempo shuffle with tic-tac bass and light drums at 1:00 am on a quiet highway is like church for a Steel man. That's the sound I want to emulate as close as I can! When a player has tone like that available for ones music, it makes the simplest of phrases sound startling authentic! The Resound 65 Pickups will provide that tone, should you desire it. The construction and tuning are inspiring. The instrument is just beginning to realize itself. Have a great day.Like
